Excerpts of Rob speaking to Eli I was able to snag within the 5 minutes it took to upload these photos:
“Hello, Mr. Foreman, how are you today?”
“Frobo? The only place that you are not furry is on your sharp little needle teeth.”
“Good morning, Bean, would you like some freshest fish?”
“Bruno Schmidlin, that is no place for kittens…”
I find it ironic that we are sweetest and kindest to the one living creature that is most aggro toward us. All that softness and sharpness packaged into one flamingly adorable pile of grey fur that—all 12.8 lbs of it—runs this household more effectively than a fat Frau with a rolling pin.
This got me to thinking about dichotomies in dressing. Well-executed looks that have an element of this seem to be the ones I’m drawn to: masculine/feminine, lingerie-inspired/suiting, black/white. These shoes—I could kiss them—are beastly both in temperament and stature. And the shorts are manic. They needed something kind on top.
[Admittedly, these were purchased before the wedgie was put in place and have been hiding under the bed in shame for weeks. A little wine and—shiznat!—I confessed to Rob and brought them out of hiding.]
Kir Royale at the Adelphi before dinner:
[J.Crew shorts + Zara poncho + Elizabeth and James platforms + M by MJ bag + Low Luv x Erin Wasson chain]
Refinery 29 recently noted that pairing combat boots with florals is tired, done, finished. Bummer; I never even tried it out legitimately. Now it’s more about pairing them with deconstructed looks; think floaty, cement-toned separates. I find my combat boots [full retrospective here] to be the most intimidating things in my closet. But I’m thinking this poncho might perform a similar miracle on them as they have above.
Any other suggestions for wearing them without looking absurd are welcome—nay, requested.

I can’t believe you got those effing shoes! You didn’t tell me! I recognized them instantly, and thought, “oh no she didn’t”. I have been eyeballing them since they went on sale and have to keep talking myself out of them. I really don’t have any practical need for them in my everyday life, (at least that is what I’m telling myself).
But I AM glad that you got them! 🙂
First — Those platforms were a necessity, obvi.
Second — I also love a good Kir Royale. Right now I’m sipping lukewarm sparkling white wine (so not the same thing) – I’ve been nursing it for the past hour while stalking photos of Miroslava Duma on the Fashion Spot. That girl…that girl…..
Third — that poncho is so versatile. Who would have thought? You. You would have thought.
Fourth — I think you can still pull the dichotomy thing with the combat boots, but like you suggested, with soft neutrals instead of florals/prints. The J.Crew F/W 10 lookbook is a good example, I think. Crazy hair, pink lips, frilly white dresses w/lots of olive, black and tan thrown in.
Fifth — I think I had too much wine.

You got them??!! Did you get them in black or brown? It’s kinda hard to tell. I am so jealous!!! Love those E&J platforms, I so wanted to get them when they went on sale @ Shopbop. So Cute!
Don’t worry Care Bear, I’m always hiding stuff, then pull it out one day, and Will’s like, “When did you get that?” and I reply, “Oh this? I’ve had it, just haven’t worn it in awhile.” Lol! So bad. 😛
i second everything megan said. outfits and color palettes like these make me wish i was a brunette. oh well. xoxo.
okay anyway i don’t know how i missed this post, but that outfit is hot sauce and i don’t mean just tobasco. those freaking shoes are ridic. and then there’s that damned fantastical poncho.
