Corks + Caftans

More from The Greenbrier.

February 18, 2012 2 Comments

For the curious, the nostalgic, or the bored, here are a few more pics from our stay.

Welcome lunch at Draper’s Cafe, which although moved from its sunny upstairs location to the lower casino level, afforded us a stunning view of a lone elderly gentlemen working his right bicep on a slot machine.

TDF pulled pork sandwich and fried green tomato sandwich, beeteedubs.

We had a pretty fantastic post-breakfast dip in the indoor pool, which was perfect bathtub temperature and afforded me the opportunity to imitate my nephew Trent, by splashing a lot, screaming “ah-dai” (?? I don’t know), then getting Rob to wrap me, burrito-style, in an oversized towel, in which I promptly took a huge nap. Eggs Benedict will do that to you.

Didn’t skate this time, but dropped a wink for the spirit of Careys past.

Took this seriously:

Shuffleboarding. I’m 31 now; figured I should start getting good at nursing home games.

Hike up Raven Rock Trail, which is slightly different now, given the little signs marking plots for new vacation homes along the way. Hmph.

Dig that Howler Bros shirt! Check out their stuff; it’s all fantastic.

Dirty, on the rocks, at Prime 44 West:

Historically, and currently, my favorite bathroom at the GB, the ladies’ adjacent to the main dining room. Once favored for its floor [perfect for tapping around on in little girl dress shoes], now, enjoyed for exact same thing.

At the trailhead.

Just waiting on the sound of popping corks and the fragrance of buttery sauces over beef:

Testing the limits of the resort dress code:

A great reading spot:

Rob listening to audio books while I snooze by the pool.

Mini bar nightcap giggles.

High tea piano concert. He announced he’d be playing in the main dining room later, and taking requests. So I asked for two John Barry favorites: Somewhere in Time and Out of Africa. Le sigh.

Until next time, Dorothy D.
