Before we left for St Barth, I wrote Chad a check for my portion of our room and tucked it in an envelope with a note that said something like “I love going on adventures with you. And this one’s going to be the best yet. Now let’s go burn down the money tree.” Which, I mean, you kind of have to do down there. (Unless you routinely opt for JoJo Burger, pictured above, which I found utterly charming and homey as if it had been born of my dad’s favorite memories, surfer mentality, and dive bar tendencies.)
A circa-1972 hardbound guide book to the island sitting on the coffee table in our rented house on the hill said, in some (perfectly) poorly translated English: “This happy island is not for those looking for charity, or to save their wallets.”
Prophetic, weird little guide book. Prophetic.
Anyway. Just when I’d like to “save my wallet” the season of spending is upon us—during which I plan on being most strategic with purchases. My “one thing has to go before one thing can enter” closet rule might have slipped a bit when I met a sweet local in a store who had a massive stash of clearance Isabel Marant Etoile summer cotton (also pictured above), and it might happen again here—because it’s ShopBop sale time, yall.
